MARC DE FLEYT MUSIC PROJECTS LISTED

The banner at Soundcloud’s states:

Synth rock – Dance music – Jazz – Blues - Alternative Symphony

Experimental – Pseudo Classic – Synth Wave -

Music for art projects – Words

Marc De Fleyt has been writing or working on hundreds of songs of which many were selected or have reached a proper recording status being part of album projects. Each of them often with a specific instrumentation, manner of composition, subject angle and music styles attached to them. Most projects deal with serveral albums.

Samples of this can be found on the Marc De Fleyt YouTube channels as soundtracks of video's or as stubborn self-directed music video's.

And soon we believe on Soundcloud.

Short history

As Marc De Fleyt does not manage music notation or does not read music, all the earlier try-out work can be found on numerous tapes, video recordings, digital filing or CD and dictaphone recordings.  Some of those are compiled in private collections of about 24 CD’s called Democity 1 to 24. Each of them containing about 15 tracks on average, recording quality and the artistic qualities varies. Some songs were played on an out of tune and slightly broken bar piano for example. The song try-outs at a very prime stadium were collected as Page and the Music Box and earlier as Power Engagement, more rocky material with sometimes a doubtful quality of vocal performances, lyrics sharp on the edge funny and at times, a bit naughty. They were actually written for others to perform them. Strickly Marc does see himself as composer recording these tracks as samples of how they can be performed. Much later on they started living a life of their own. Anyhow they are series as Marc used to work on project with different angles, means and way of composing, and choice of instrumentation and use of lyrics, spoken word or poetry. Many lyrics were written too throughout. The majority (though rhythmically alright) even without ever been put onto music.

Those were collected in books like Lyrics for Songs, Epitaph for a tone death Singing bird, High on reality, sideways of parade street, a selection of all those was included in Lyrics for songs of the bigger collection of finished projects called A box of Feelings. However lyrics of recorded songs might also be derived from poetry or can be found as part of poetry collections. Other lyrics have been improvised whilst recording. There is the much later on written only lyric collection I am a machine, very likely more than 100 lyrics. Each other lyric book contains between approximately 40 and 100 lyrics.

You will not find songs listed here that have been co-written. Plenty of mentionable song material was made as a member of T-Bay (together with Christophe Toussaint and Eric Wong) and as part of a play written or edited together with Paul A. Corello, or put onto music by Carol Philips and Catherine Guy). Of all this recordings were put in private CD collections and video’s. Even video clips with T-Bay do exist (On the move) as tapes of the entire play (The Bees by Pure Lemon Juice). Also the drum soli and experimental bass percussion tracks you not will find listed here.

Not seen here as a project, though it definitely was is The Blue Project. A project of singing, keyboard playing and the use of rhythm box. Although material is on view on YouTube. However some songs at times have become part of the more official collections.

In order to prepare further inclusion of music on Sound Cloud music projects have been reorganized.

The content of existing projects have since recently been more defined. New definitions were set up. Often new album covers were made.

Anyhow some of the broadcasted material might, as listed here, have now shifted to another bigger project. This really is a vast minority of work merely written between Silly cone Brain period and the Tandvliesch period. It has been collected as Pef Instrumentum,  Pef Vocal point and as Dentle Care (earlier Dentl Care). This to bring tracks of a similar approach, style or kind together. These new set ups may also include short-lived projects such as Stringwise, Hozart and Momart, 1345y412d, Page 84, Pef and Would Barry Mill (originally SCB) songs. We have tried to be as complete as possible. And in the near future: WITH LINKS.

Recorded or broadcasted Solo Music projects

The following projects have been listed as part of Cd’s except the compilation CD Music and Words of which many songs have been shifted. . Recordings of poetry recites from the collections the Heart of Spades and This is a question you will not see listed here in detail.

We will try to find links to clips on DENKTANK collectief and Marc De Fleyt Art Channel with this music in the near future.

Silly Cone Brain

Midi compositions. Any new material be written or re-collected will be labelled as Silly Cone Rain. Music of Polish was used for the video Werewolves of North London.

The first album Polish though the album cover depicts its flag has no connection with the country Poland as such. It was a reason for making up titles using only few vowels. Polish tends to pseudo classic. Marc calls this style and approach Alternative Symphony.

The main challenge of the following SCB albums was different namely to create as silly music as possible. Not a guarantee to world hit wonders but those tracks might perfectly suit creative art projects.

DON’T BE SILLY  -1997-ish   The accents are on experiment. They are the stepping stones to further developement of the writing abitities. It made Marc not affraid of introducing experiment mixed with conventional song writing throughout the many projects that followed. Due to technical reasons some tracks were not put in the original format on the compilation Music and Words of 2014 and their titles slightly altered but recognizable. We have kept the original name here. The ones are stated with the duration, are found on Music and Words in a new mix version.

Marhonia

As Marhonia Marc worked on a collection of songs with harmonica. The try-outs were often recorded on a dictaphone during walks in London.  Sometimes the songs are mixed with sounds of a squeeking CD jewel case,  or the sound of a cheap camera or some tapping or stomping.  Here is the full list of tracks some of them do contain vocals.

Bast

Project names might be original but they have often been altered or shorten much later on. This clearly for the better. So did Bast.

The project name 1345t412d (BASTARD) was later on shortened to Bast (or 1345t if you wish).

The original name was made up because an English friend nicknamed Marc(o) the Belgian Bastard and as the man was not always very fond of decisions made in  Brussels, the album title Brussels was chosen. However the content of the album has nothing to do with the town in itself. Stronger this time it has not very much to do with anything and to that point the collection definitely will be inherent.

The midi compositions on this short album are the beginning of the development of the style Alternative Symphony. Flying ant anthem and Complications are very much like that. The other tracks most of them based around drum patterns of funkey keyboard solo's might be a great deal for those looking for alternative rhytmical work or looking for weird or happy captive sound bits of djingles.

Silly Cone Rain -originally 1998 re-compiled and re-branded in 2026

Midi composed instrumental album then called Would Barry Mill was re-compiled in 2026 and renamed into Comix (Music for Art Projects).

Some tracks gained new titles and the order of appearance was altered. Inspiration was gathered from the comic book stories and cartoon films' creative environment and ball game. So it is more or less written as a score to imaginary films of that kind.

The music was crazy enough to be labeled SCR, yet didn't suit the Dentle Care idea and was far too wild for Pef Instrumentum. Fully arranged, merely not easy-listening stuff but perfectly alright and inspirational varied weird music that may fit or support some artistic dance or pictures well, and some synth wave. Hence:

Hozart

Thoughout this project piano playing is central. You may also discover some song-supporting string arrangements. It is a short entire instrumental album. Nevertheless many tracks have been remixed later on and can be found as music clips on the Youtube channels or on  other CD's . No extremely special admiration for Amadeus anyhow although the title of the project surely is a wordplay and the old cover depicted a cartoon of Marc De Fleyt in Mozart-like outfit/ hairstyle.

Pef  - 1998-2014ish

Mixes of midi recordings and analogue keyboard recordings, instrumentals. Call it experimental symphony, there are clearly also some influences of jazz, rock... Taken from the projects such as  aRT iS nOT EVERYTHING by Page 84,  Mr Moody,  or Stringwise …and extra SCB remixes.  May also include beats and percussion. It is music based around alternative symphony, drum pattern experiments, simple experimental arrangements and keyboard play. Instrumentum does not mean that all sounds have been played by real instruments. Keyboards or synths might be used on some tracks but the biggest part in written into an arranger program. Because Marc doesn't read notes well, he draws lines in a music notation application using a simple pc-mouse. So instrumentum simply means that there are no vocals. In Vocal point the voice is present. Mixes of midi recordings and analogue recordings, accent on at times brittle vocals, lyrics, recites, voice experiments and harmonies. Studio work becomes more important. This project does not include the more rocky tracks of Poetry to perform in front of your Friends.
